Michigan Avenue Hotel Entrances
Michigan Avenue runs one-way southbound on the upper level. Northbound vehicle approaches require using parallel streets — Rush, State, or Lake Shore Drive northbound. A driver who doesn't know this tries to approach north-facing hotel entrances against the one-way flow and adds 10-15 minutes of awkward circling.
Our drivers know the specific entrance for every hotel on the corridor:
- Four Seasons (120 E Delaware Pl) — Delaware Place entrance, away from Michigan congestion.
- Waldorf Astoria (11 E Walton St) — Walton Street, one block off Michigan. Quiet porte-cochère, no congestion.
- Peninsula (108 E Superior St) — Superior Street valet. Doormen coordinate car service arrivals efficiently.
- InterContinental (505 N Michigan Ave) — Michigan Avenue porte-cochère. Congested 2-5 PM check-in hours — driver arrives 10 minutes early.
- Loews Chicago (455 N Park Dr) — East of Michigan, Illinois Street access. Significantly less traffic.
Gold Coast and Streeterville
North of Oak Street, the Magnificent Mile transitions into the Gold Coast — residential towers, boutique hotels, and the quieter luxury of East Lake Shore Drive. Properties like the Tremont and the Whitehall sit just north of the main Michigan Avenue commercial corridor in a significantly calmer traffic environment.
Streeterville, east of Michigan between the river and Oak Street, includes the Loews, the Sheraton Grand, and numerous executive apartment buildings with ground-floor porte-cochères. The east-west streets (Illinois, Grand, Ohio) provide clean vehicle access without fighting Michigan Avenue traffic.
All Gold Coast and Streeterville addresses are covered under the same flat-rate structure as Magnificent Mile hotels — the geography doesn't add to your cost.
Client entertainment note: When clients arrive for dinner at Gibson's (1028 N Rush), RPM Steak (66 W Kinzie), or Maple & Ash (8 W Maple), we coordinate hotel pickup timing so they arrive composed. Book the return pickup for a fixed time — 2.5 hours after the reservation is typically right for a dinner with conversation.
Why Clients Don't Use Rideshare for This Route
The O'Hare to Mag Mile run looks like a simple rideshare. Until it isn't.
When three international flights land at Terminal 5 between 6 and 7 PM on a Friday, rideshare surge pricing can push the fare to $140-160. Our flat rate is $85. No demand algorithms, no surprises.
Rideshare apps direct drivers to generic O'Hare coordinates. A driver unfamiliar with Terminal 5's international arrivals outer curb may circle the wrong level. For a client landing after a transatlantic flight, that's the wrong first impression.
You book a rideshare for 6:30 PM. Your flight lands at 6:05. The driver isn't there yet — you're waiting on the curb with luggage. We track the flight. When it lands early, the driver adjusts early. Simple.
Rideshare charges hit personal cards and require expense reports. Our corporate accounts invoice monthly with itemized trip details, cost center codes, and Concur/SAP-compatible formatting. Your EA reconciles in minutes, not hours.
